Today was a fun one. We woke up and headed toward Rochester. As we crossed the Brighton town line, we climbed a large and enduring hill unknown even to Avery (local resident to the area). We took a break and waited for Ersa (Kiera) and Kyle (Tyler). We proceeded to head to dog town to eat a greasy lunch. Afterwards we went to Avery’s parents studio space where we learned how to make balloon dogs and received a balloon bicycle! Then the day began to close and we headed to the next campsite, where we had chili for dinner. – Avery

The Across America Trekkers woke up in Chicago and ate breakfast in their room with a view over Millennial Park. They hit the road, following a bike path around the lake before crossing into Indiana and making their way to their camp spot in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Trekkers started off their day at Wimpy’s Diner for brunch before going to a waterpark! At the waterpark we raced down the Kamikaze and Blue Demon slides, and we sneakily ate some strawberry funnel cake before our leader came back from relaxing in the lazy river (she was concerned about our sugar intake). After a surprise burst of thunderstorms we waited out the rain by playing some games and listening to thunder. We then biked along Lake Ontario and ended up at the campsite, where we had a delicious spaghetti with veggies and meatballs (that soon became ground beef). Today was our last night camping of the trip! Goodbye mosquitos and pesky raccoons , hello Toronto!

Today the Teen Trekkers on Across America completed just under 90 miles! They traveled all the way to Ligonier, Indiana, but not before stopping for an ice cream break in the mid afternoon. They also got to ride on some sweet riverside bike paths today, and they crossed into the Eastern time zone! Getting closer…

Today we biked 18 miles, after hiking through Ball Falls nature preserve and seeing the spectacular waterfalls. While playing wax museum at a park in front of Lake Ontario, Will used his pickle eating skills to distract some motionless Trekkers. It’s hard to keep a straight face when someone is munching a pickle in your ear! We finished our break with a swim in Lake Ontario, then cycled 4 more miles to our campground for the night. This glorious wonderful day was incredibly filled with splendor. We biked from Lake Bluffs to Webster park. It was extremely hot and fruity. It was awful until we stopped at Bear Creek for swimming! We ate at a delicious fruit stand at the beginning of the day.

Today the Across America Trekkers got an early morning start in order to reach the day’s destination city, Chicago, IL, by mid afternoon. Henry spent some time with his sister while Rob met up with his dad, and Kyle, Liza, and Matt spent the night downtown eating deep dish pizza, exploring city parks and attractions, and watching The Second City Comedy Show. Thanks to Rob’s family for booking us a hotel room and for tomorrow’s warm breakfast!

Our day began with Tyler’s musical “wakey wakey”, setting us up for a fantastic 20 mile trip ahead of us. After breakfast, we were greeted by a couple of huge hills and made our way to Walcott to do some much needed laundry. As our clothes slowly got de-toxified, the food crew went to buy lunch, dinner, and breakfast. We finished up our laundry and ate lunch at a nearby park. Then, we made our way to the Chimney Bluffs, where we found a beautiful view and a great beach. Finally, we biked a short distance to our campground where we unfortunately found that our site was already occupied by an actual infinite number of mosquitos. After a dinner of mac n cheese, we made a fire with the help of Larry from the other campsite. We finished our relaxing day with bug bites and s’mores, and we’re ready for a great day tomorrow!
