Montreal at Last for NY-Montreal Trek

Posted Posted in 2017

Today we were up and out at nine despite the rain, excited to reach our final destination! The ride from Napierville to Montreal was about 30 miles and flat as a pancake. We arrived in the city at around 1:00, then we checked into our hostel. Once we checked in, we dropped our stuff off and had some time to explore the city. There is a outdoor circus festival this week in Montreal, and we all found some captivating performances to watch.

Later, we cooked a delicious fettuccine pesto dinner and got an early night sleep. Some of the Trekkers are looking to challenge themselves, and will attempt an 100 mile ride tomorrow on Quebec’s flat roads which are especially well suited for biking.

California Coast Trekkers in Awe of the Beautiful Pacific Coast

Posted Posted in 2017

Today, as we departed from San Francisco, climbing great hills, we witnessed some of the most breathtaking views from the cool fog to the waves crashing against the rocks. It was truly some of the most spectacular views one could witness. Reaching our hostel, standing out on the beach, and seeing the beautiful sunset iswhy we do this. We are all excited for what tomorrow brings, as we grow together as a group.

NY -Montreal Trekkers Have Relaxing Day In Quebec

Posted Posted in 2017

Today, we waited out the rainstorm in Napierville, Quebec, since we got here a day early. We started our morning with a breakfast of pancakes and eggs, then went into town to grocery shop and exchange currency before the weather got too rainy. After lunch, we visited a Tim Hortons. Everybody agreed their donuts were better than Dunkin Donuts! Then we came back to the campground to play cards and chat with the residents in broken English. At dinner time, we went to a local restaurant for burgers and poutine.

Tomorrow, we will make our final push north to the city of Montreal!

Devil’s Tower was a Diversion for Across Trekkers

Posted Posted in 2017

The Across America trekkers had quite the day today. The chose a detour route that allowed them to see the Devil’s Tower, a rock formation formed by hot magma rising from the ground over 50 million years ago. They took their lunch break at the formation and then ended their day at a fun campsite in Sundance, WY where they played pool and table tennis and enjoyed some ice cream for dessert.

FIRST DAY – California Coast Trek

Posted Posted in 2017

Welcome to San Francisco! After visiting a local bike shop for a few tune-ups, we started our trip by sightseeing in the famous city. First stop: Golden Gate Park. Even though the park was only a couple miles away, it took a while to bike up the steep hills. We stopped to create and untangle a human knot, then picnicked nearby. Our next adventure was biking across the Golden Gate Bridge. We saw two whales! Unfortunately, we couldn’t actually see the bridge we were on due to excessive fog. We assumed we had the right one. Finally, we checked out Fishermen’s Wharf and Pier 39, where we said hi to some pelicans and sea lions. We are all looking forward to getting on the road tomorrow for our next stop down the coast!
