Cape Cod Trekkers Eat Portuguese Treats and Visit Pilgrim Monument

Teen Treks Cape Cod set things off on a high and energetic note in the historic and scenic town Provincetown, MA.

Trekkers, parents, and leaders met in the early morning in downtown Boston before the city streets began to grind. Trekkers embraced their parents one last time before embarking on their intrepid journey around Cape Cod.

Within one hour, our crew of 7 we’re being whisked away on a high-speed ferry to P-town with the high rises of Boston shrinking in the horizon.

Our first order of business was a visit to a world-class Portuguese bakery on Commercial Street. Once our panniers we’re loaded with exotic treats from the local establishment, we rode to the Pilgrim’s Landing, to begin a 2-hour walk along narrow causeway leading out to a narrow spit of land in the middle of Cape Cod Bay. We made it all the way to edge of the spit and dug out our Portuguese delectables and had a triumphant picnic. We savored the moment and returned to the landing.
In the afternoon, the sun came out and we visited the Pilgrim’s monument. From the top of the granite tower, we drank in the glorious vista. Back down at the base of the monument, we read stories about Provincetown’s rich and unique past.

Back in town, Commercial Street was operating in full force and flying the rainbow flag proudly. Never had any of us seen men wear shorts so tiny.

After some ice cream and shopping in town, we headed up to our campground and enjoying a thoughtfully prepared meal by two of our trekkers to the sound of Revolutionary War thistle and drum enthusiasts. The atmosphere couldn’t have been better.
Coincidentally, there was another group of teens cycling the from the opposite direction camping at another site. We combined our groups and played a few rounds of man hunt and jailbreak, which was a good remedy for thwarting mosquitos.

Still, after all of the activity, out group remains chatty and gabby late into the night.
Tomorrow may be a bit more relaxing, but I have a feeling the sun’s forces will be hard at work.
