A Fun Day in Portland for Maine Coast Trekkers

This morning we got to sleep in until 8 and then eat hotel breakfast. There was a waffle machine and so much milk!! (we love milk!) Then we took the bus to downtown Portland and walked around a little bit. We ran to get groceries so that we could make it in time for the ferry to Peaks Island. The ferry ride was so pretty and we met local high schoolers who live on the island and take the ferry to school. On the island we ate lunch in a park and hung out, played frisbee, picked blueberries and played with seaweed on the beach for so long. It was so fun. Then we started exploring the island. We went to see an world record umbrella collection, some art shops, galleries, and the local library. Some locals told us how to get to Battery steel so we followed there direction and found the craziest tunnels. On the way there we found free rollerblades and they fit Evie perfectly! The tunnels were so dark and had really cool graffiti everywhere. We walked all around the inside together because we only had 2 flashlights. Then we found a trail that led us to the top of the tunnels so that we could see a view of the ocean. When we took the ferry back across and went to a pizza place to eat dinner. Ben and Hannah lied to us and told us they bought us $40 tickets to a jazz show performed by middle schoolers that we had to hurry to get to. They said it was 4 hours long and that the money went to charity but that they were the best jazz middle schoolers in Southern Maine. But, they pranked us!! Instead we got to see the minion movie!!! We have been talking about the minion movie and been wanting to see it since we first got to Boston. We even tried to watch it in the hotel last night. After the movie we played frisbee while walking back to the hotel. The hotel is across the street from a milk factory (we love milk!) and one of the workers was there when we walked past so we got to talk to him for awhile and he told us about all the tanks.
