Cape Cod Trekkers Biking the CC Rail Trail

Posted Leave a commentPosted in 2022

Hi, I am currently writing an entry from our hammock. I have been assigned the job documentarian, and am excited to describe today. We started out waking up at about 7:00 to have oatmeal and cereals, and biked to a trail, which led to Cliff Pond, being a fresh and crystal-clear body of water. We scrambled up some some boulder and played Spike Ball, a game similar to volleyball but slapping the ball on to a mini trampoline. We saw Hannah improving exponentially, and Marlow throwing out crazy plays and dives. Adam and Lauren had a swimming race, which was close, but Adam ended up winning. We finished the trail and spent some time playing mini golf, then buying groceries for ham and cheese wraps for the following day. We then biked home and played some more spikeball. Everyone is gathered around the fire now and I’m excited for some s’mores.

Cape Cod Trekkers Bike to Brewster with a hike to start the day!

Posted Leave a commentPosted in 2022

Hello everyone!

Today we started off our day by packing up our Provincetown campsite and heading over to the Dunes Shack trail. We did a hike over some of the biggest dunes in the Cape and then hung out at the beach before returning to our bikes. We started biking soon after and had our first full travel day by bike. We arrived at Nickerson State Park in Brewster just before dinner, and then enjoyed dinner together before finishing off the day playing board games at the campsite.

Cape Cod Trekkers Eat Portuguese Treats and Visit Pilgrim Monument

Teen Treks Cape Cod set things off on a high and energetic note in the historic and scenic town Provincetown, MA.

Trekkers, parents, and leaders met in the early morning in downtown Boston before the city streets began to grind. Trekkers embraced their parents one last time before embarking on their intrepid journey around Cape Cod.

Within one hour, our crew of 7 we’re being whisked away on a high-speed ferry to P-town with the high rises of Boston shrinking in the horizon.

Our first order of business was a visit to a world-class Portuguese bakery on Commercial Street. Once our panniers we’re loaded with exotic treats from the local establishment, we rode to the Pilgrim’s Landing, to begin a 2-hour walk along narrow causeway leading out to a narrow spit of land in the middle of Cape Cod Bay. We made it all the way to edge of the spit and dug out our Portuguese delectables and had a triumphant picnic. We savored the moment and returned to the landing.
In the afternoon, the sun came out and we visited the Pilgrim’s monument. From the top of the granite tower, we drank in the glorious vista. Back down at the base of the monument, we read stories about Provincetown’s rich and unique past.

Back in town, Commercial Street was operating in full force and flying the rainbow flag proudly. Never had any of us seen men wear shorts so tiny.

After some ice cream and shopping in town, we headed up to our campground and enjoying a thoughtfully prepared meal by two of our trekkers to the sound of Revolutionary War thistle and drum enthusiasts. The atmosphere couldn’t have been better.
Coincidentally, there was another group of teens cycling the from the opposite direction camping at another site. We combined our groups and played a few rounds of man hunt and jailbreak, which was a good remedy for thwarting mosquitos.

Still, after all of the activity, out group remains chatty and gabby late into the night.
Tomorrow may be a bit more relaxing, but I have a feeling the sun’s forces will be hard at work.

Meet Trip Leader Connor!

Hey everyone!

My name is Connor, and I am from Long Island, New York. I am currently a student at SUNY- Environmental Science and Forestry, studying Natural Resources Management. I have explored most of the Adirondacks here in New York State. I have also visited out west where I explored various National Parks.  Some of my hobbies include hiking, rock climbing, both road cycling and mountain biking, soccer, and ultimate frisbee! (as well as any other sport) I have worked at a boy’s camp in the Adirondack Park for the past 4 years, where I learned to work with teens and work outdoors. This camp has showed me the importance of teaching teens to appreciate the outdoors, loving the activities that can be done in the outdoors, in a safe and exciting way. I am so excited to get on the road with everyone! I am excited to be in the great outdoors, as well as exploring places I have never been.

Meet Returning Trip Leader, Lis!

Hi everybody! My name is Lis and I am so excited to get back out on the road with y’all this year! I lead a couple treks with Teen Treks summer of ’21 and loved it. It was a dream to bike down roads and up mountains in the PNW and Burlington, VT, singing songs, really experiencing the fullness of what the world has to offer and meeting new people. After graduating college, I began teaching Spanish at a brand new school called New England Innovation Academy just outside Boston, MA. I enjoy running and biking on the New England roads and trails around the area with fellow teachers and staff! I always aspire to make the classes fun communities of learning based on values of empathy, listening and respect and this carries over to bike treks as well 🙂

Hey trekkers!! My name is Seamus and I’m so excited to pound some miles this year with Teen Treks! I’m from Plattsburgh, New York and am currently a student at Binghamton University where I’ll be working on my Master’s in Data Analytics! I love being outdoors and partaking in its activities! I’m an avid skier and have logged 90 days on the slopes in the last two seasons! I’m also an ADK 46er and working on hiking the 4000’ peaks continuing out of New York into Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine! And, of course, I love biking and the many places it can lead me in touring! I also love running and I’ll be completing my first Half Ironman this summer. What I love most about these activities is the places it can bring you to in adventuring your own world, and I’m thrilled to be able to explore what it offers with you all! I can’t wait to learn more about you and make our travels unforgettable!! See y’all soon.
