A Celebratory Last Day for the Cape Cod Trekkers

Posted Posted in 2020

Today we woke up to a beautiful day in P-town! For breakfast, we had EGGO waffles with syrup peanut butter and Nutella along with honey nut Cheerios. After a nice breakfast, we biked on a cool bike trail along the dunes with a lot of curves and hills, up and down. We went to check out several beaches. After that, we went down to P-town for a nice lunch. Most of us got fried fish. After a tasty lunch, Tessa and Elliot let us explore the town and buy some souvenirs and gifts. Later, we went to a great place called The Lobster Pot. We got to see the lobsters alive in the tank. The meal consisted of lobster and steak. After dinner, we got Scott Cakes, which are the most delicious cup cakes ever. By then it was getting dark, so we biked back to the campsite, had our nightly meeting, and started getting ready bed. It was a nice last day of the trip.

GAP Trekkers Visit Falling Water House

Posted Posted in 2021

Today we woke up and headed to see Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water House. Most of the Trekkers found it really cool despite the massive hill to get there. After the fun look at the house we rode downhill into town to get lunch and do laundry. We stayed in the town all day and had a pretty chill day. When we got back to the campground we took showers and ate some burgers and ramen. Everyone is excited to get back on the trail tomorrow.

Cape Cod Trekkers Reach the Tip of the Cape

Posted Posted in 2021

We woke up this morning and it was lightly sprinkling. After packing up camp, we started to eat breakfast. Our breakfast consisted of raisin brand and muffins. After eating, we went to the bathroom and prepared ourselves for the big day. We hopped on the bikes, and started our journey. After riding along a nice bike path for awhile, the rain really started to pick up. By the time we hit around 7 miles, the rain changed from a drizzle to a downpour! We took shelter in a bakery and got some baked goods. After the short break, we decided to go to the nearest gas station for lunch. We got two pizzas! Soon after the sun came out!!! After biking another 20 miles, up and down hills, we made it to Provincetown and ate some Popsicles. A tiny bit more riding got us to the campsite. After setting up camp we got some dinner at the grocery store and then went window shopping on the Main Street for a bit. Then we headed back to the tents, and got some decent sleep.

1000 Mile Trekkers Celebrate Ruby’s Birthday in Toledo

Posted Posted in 2021

Hi readers! Today was an excellent day. Why? It was my birthday! We woke up at around 8:30 and grabbed breakfast (Comfort Inn bananas, muffins, pastries and fruit) as the steadfast smell of yesterday’s dampness permeated the air. We went back to our rooms and got ready for our rest day in Toledo. For lunch we went to the Chipotle across the street for some mediocre Mexican bowls and burritos, while setting up a game of tasks and manipulations. As we then biked into downtown, the characteristics of the city shone through: desolate and grey. However, that didn’t stop us from having fun! In fact, the balmy-yet-rainy weather allowed us to play fun games in the park and chill. We then biked to an AMAZING restaurant for dinner – Ye Olde Durty Bird! The pub-esq atmosphere coupled with some cool t-shirts and dessert made for an amazing b-day celebration. Afterwards, we biked back to the hotel, where we are getting ready to bike 60 miles tomorrow. All in all, a great 18th. See you next blog!

Whitewater Rafting was Highlight for GAP Trekkers

Posted Posted in 2020, 2021

Today we woke up bright and early and headed to Ohiopyle! We all had a blast Whitewater Rafting and it was the highlight of the day. Our journey maneuvering through the hydraulics, rocks, and waves was full of so much laughter and smiles. We were able to take a dip into the water in the calm areas and then got to pull each other back into the raft which was pretty funny. There was also a rock titled “Jumping Rock” where half the group took a courageous leap into the water. Our guides cracked some pretty funny jokes during the bus trip back down the windy roads. Once back we went to get supplies for dinner and head to the Ohiopyle State Campground. We had a pretty treacherous journey walking our bikes up a steep gravel path and all felt relieved once we finally were able to settle into our campsite and make dinner. We were all super tired and had simple dinner of vegetarian ramen with the option for hot dogs as well. Tomorrow we are looking forward to our Falling Water tour and doing laundry!

San Juan Island’s Beauty is Enjoyed by the Pacific Northwest Trekkers

Today we started off on a chilly morning with coffee and muffins. We got a late start out and we just missed our ferry time but ended up getting to see a pod of orcas over Deception Pass bridge which was really cool. We also had lunch on the dock. Our hour long ride included much needed naps and also beautiful views. Once we got to the island we shopped and got our groceries. The ride to our campsite was amazing and we got to stop by the ocean side and take pictures. The campsite ended up being one of the best sights of the trip with being right on the water with an amazing sunset and dinner was super good. After sitting by the fire and talking for a while most of the crew headed to bed. Lis and Abigail saw our first shooting star. Today was filled with adventures!!

Cape Cod Trek Ferries and Bikes to Mid Cape on Beautiful Bike Trail

Posted Posted in 2021

We started off the day with crispy bacon and the usual Honey Nut Cheerios with milk. We then packed up our stuff from the once beloved cabins and said goodbye to Martha’s Vineyard. After that we boarded the high-speed ferry and got hypnotized by the waves that passed by. Once we got to our destination (Hyannis), we set off on our 25 mile journey. Luckily we found a beautiful bike path that went through a forest and coincidentally took us straight to the campground that we were staying at for tonight. We also stopped at the Subway halfway which consisted of foot-long Italians, cookies, chips, and soda. After we got to the campground, we set up our tents. Then the cook crew headed out on the bike path to Stop & Shop, until we found a camp grocery store much closer that saved us a couple miles. We then had mac & cheese, beans, mushrooms and peppers, and sausage for dinner. Then we set up a fire, made some popcorn, and called it a night. Off to P-Town tomorrow!

1000 Mile Trekkers Make it to Toledo on a Wet Day

Posted Posted in 2021

It was an adventurous, wet and wild day today. With 12 mph head winds and rain from start to end of the day, the group pushed through and made the most of a difficult 50-mile ride to Toledo! After a 20 mile early day ride, we stopped at a Subway for lunch and made friends with the employees who made our sandwiches! They couldn’t believe we were biking all the way to NYC so we got their address to send them a postcard for proof. After more rain and a tree covered rail trail, we finally entered Toledo and celebrated the accomplishment of traveling from one Great Lake to the next and overcoming our first adverse weather day! In the end the group thought the rain ride was a wild and fun experience. And it was especially nice to end the day with hot showers, Dominos pizza and a comfy hotel bed. Tomorrow is Trekker Ruby’s birthday, so we will be celebrating even more tomorrow!

GAP Trekkers Enjoying Bike Trail Lifestyle

Posted Posted in 2021

Day 3: After our first night camping, we challenged the kids with a 35 mile dash on the trail in order to avoid an incoming thunderstorm. This dash was led by Kai and Jason while Noah kept our morale up and Cooper kept us safe by making sure we were all hydrated, had our lights on, and were eating etc. The trail itself was simply beautiful with dense, green forests and serene rivers flanking us on either side. Halfway through the ride, we stopped at the shop a lady yesterday had referred to us. The owner there sold us some Powerade and some of the best ice cream sandwiches we’ve had in our lives, which we ate while playing with his dog Luce. Due to us focusing on taking only necessary stops and good leading by the points, we arrived at Connellsville with time to spare before the rain showed up. While the rain passed we took the time to have a proper lunch and talk amongst ourselves. After, while the some of the kids arm wrestled, others found out that our neighbors in the camp were a family of 4 who were with us in the Dravo campgrounds yesterday and are on a route similar to ours. At the end of the day everyone was rewarded with takeout dinner and we went to sleep early in preparation for our big day tomorrow. We’re all looking forward to tomorrow’s whitewater rafting as well as some well deserved showers.
